Visit Maldives has appointed British-Spanish actor Taz Skylar, best known for his role as Sanji in Netflix’s hit live-action series One Piece, as a Global Ambassador under its Global Ambassadorship Program.
The appointment
places the Maldives in the global spotlight through one of today’s most
influential entertainment figures. As ambassador, Skylar will showcase the
country’s stunning landscapes, cultural heritage, adventurous offerings, and
sustainable tourism initiatives to millions of international fans.
Netflix’s One
Piece has become a cultural phenomenon, breaking records as the
most-watched show in 84 countries upon release, surpassing Wednesday and
Stranger Things. Widely acclaimed as one of the most successful
live-action anime adaptations, the series has amplified Skylar’s global
popularity, particularly among younger audiences.
With more than
1.8 million Instagram followers and high engagement rates — averaging 45,000
likes and over 300 comments per post — Skylar brings a powerful platform for
Maldives tourism. His ambassadorship is expected to introduce the destination
to new markets and audiences through authentic storytelling.
As part of the
initiative, Skylar will visit the Maldives from 27 August to 15 September 2025
for a destination marketing project. The campaign will highlight both the
adventurous spirit of the islands and their unique culinary traditions,
aligning with his One Piece character’s passion for cooking.
The Global
Ambassadorship Program, launched by Visit Maldives, seeks to promote the nation
to wider international audiences by leveraging the influence of globally recognized
figures. Through credible advocates like Skylar, the program aims to showcase
authentic Maldivian experiences, strengthen tourism branding, and enhance
visibility across key markets, including families, adventure seekers, and young
travelers.
Visit Maldives
continues to expand its global presence by collaborating with prominent
personalities who can represent the Maldives with authenticity and creativity,
ensuring the destination remains one of the world’s most desirable travel
choices.
