Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has commenced a comprehensive assessment of domestic airports recently brought under its management, aiming to enhance operational standards and infrastructure across the country.
The initiative,
spearheaded by MACL’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, will see
members of the company’s Executive Committee (EXCO) and technical teams conduct
on-site evaluations of all nine airports. The teams are tasked with reviewing
the current condition of facilities, identifying operational challenges, and
recommending targeted improvements.
As part of this
ongoing effort, MACL officials visited Fuvahmulah Airport last week. During the
visit, the delegation inspected the airport’s condition and engaged directly
with staff to understand their concerns and operational experiences.
This nationwide
airport assessment follows the government’s decision to merge the Regional
Airports Company Limited (RACL) with MACL. The merger, which took effect last
month, transferred the management of nine domestic airports from RACL to MACL.
According to
MACL, the process will be critical in ensuring the newly acquired airports meet
safety, service, and efficiency standards. Strengthening domestic aviation
facilities is expected to improve connectivity for island communities and
support the Maldives’ broader tourism and economic growth goals.
