The number of Indian tourists visiting the Maldives has surpassed 100,000 so far this year, signaling a strong rebound in travel confidence and renewed interest from one of the country’s key markets.
According to the
latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism, 100,596 tourists have arrived
from India as of October 18, placing the country sixth among the top source
markets for the Maldives in 2025. The data reflects growing momentum following
months of concerted promotional efforts by Maldivian tourism authorities to
re-engage the Indian market.
China continues
to lead the list of source markets, contributing 284,933 arrivals this year.
Russia follows in second place with 213,851 visitors, while the United Kingdom
ranks third with 152,884 arrivals. Germany and Italy hold the fourth and fifth
spots with 126,892 and 116,705 tourists, respectively.
Overall, the
Maldives has welcomed 1,743,577 tourists so far this year — a 10 percent
increase compared to the same period last year. Tourist arrivals currently
average more than 6,000 visitors daily, with 107,088 arrivals recorded so far
this month alone.
In a bid to
further strengthen the flow of visitors from India, the Maldives launched a
dedicated promotional campaign titled “From Tiranga to Turquoise” in August.
The campaign, spearheaded by Visit Maldives, aims to boost Indian arrivals to 200,000
by the end of the year.
Visit Maldives
expressed optimism that the recent official visit of Indian Prime Minister
Narendra Modi to the Maldives has deepened bilateral ties, fostering confidence
and goodwill that extend to the tourism sector as well.
Adding to the
momentum, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif, appointed as Global Tourism
Ambassador for Visit Maldives, is scheduled to visit the country soon — a move
expected to further elevate Maldives’ visibility among Indian travelers and
strengthen its position as a preferred holiday destination.
With the
government continuing to host targeted promotional events and enhance
connectivity, the renewed surge in Indian arrivals underscores growing trust
and interest in the Maldives as a safe, luxurious, and welcoming destination
for travelers from across the region.
