The Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced that ATM will be installed in all inhabited islands of the Maldives by the end of this month, marking a major step in the bank’s nationwide financial inclusion initiative.
Speaking at the
inauguration ceremony of a new ATM in ADh. Maamigili, BML’s Head of Brand and
Marketing Strategy, Mohamed Saeed, revealed that the bank has successfully
installed ATMs in 95 islands over the past eight months. He noted that only 10
islands remain without ATMs, and installations in these locations are expected
to be completed within the next 20 days.
With this
expansion, BML has completed ATM installations in all inhabited islands across
17 atolls. The remaining work will focus on Lhaviyani and Laamu atolls, as well
as Addu City, after which every inhabited island in the country will have
access to banking services through BML’s ATM network.
The installation
of ATMs in the Maldives began in 2000, and over the past 24 years—excluding
Malé—BML has installed ATMs in 81 inhabited islands. Yesterday’s installation
in Maamigili marked a significant milestone as the bank’s 250th ATM nationwide.
BML’s ongoing
expansion is part of its commitment to improving banking accessibility and
convenience for all Maldivians, especially those living in outer islands where
physical banking facilities are limited.
