Zain Sameer, a barista at Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas,
has been crowned the champion of the Lavazza Barista Challenge at Food and
Hospitality Asia Maldives 2024, held in Malé.
With this victory, he has qualified for the International
Finals, where he will compete for the title of Lavazza Barista Challenge
Champion.
The two-day challenge saw the participation of 14 baristas,
each representing a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.
The Lavazza Barista Challenge was introduced in the Maldives
at this year’s convention by Euro Marketing, the sole distributor of Lavazza
products in the Maldives. Euro Marketing has been sponsoring the barista
segment since 2017.
The competition was judged by a panel of Lavazza-trained experts, consisting of three sensory judges and one technical judge, who evaluated the contestants' brewing skills.
Zain, 25, emerged as the winner of the challenge. Sanseesh
Sai from Waldorf Astoria Maldives secured second place, while Sameen Mohamed,
also from Anantara Kihavah, took third place.
The Barista Challenge is a global competition that brings together talented baristas from around the world. It offers participants the opportunity to showcase their mastery of coffee-making techniques, creativity, and passion for the craft.
Lavazza, an Italian coffee manufacturer founded in Turin in
1895, is the leading coffee brand in the Maldives.
