Maldives Could Cross 2 Million Visitors in 2025 With Strong Q4 Momentum

Tourist arrivals in the Maldives continue to climb as the year-end travel season approaches, positioning the country for a potential record finish in 2025. The Maldives has already recorded 1.79 million visitors, representing a 10.1 percent increase year-on-year.

October alone has seen approximately 153,800 arrivals, a 14.4 percent increase compared to October 2024, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

Resorts remain the dominant accommodation segment, accounting for about 74 percent of arrivals, with guesthouses at roughly 21.5 percent. Capacity across the destination has grown to nearly 67,000 operational beds in over 1,296 properties.

China leads as a source market with over 290,000 visitors (16.2 percent) this year, followed by Russia, the UK, Germany and Italy. Improved air-connectivity and upgraded airport infrastructure are cited as key drivers behind the uptick in arrivals.

With the high-season beginning in November, industry observers expect that performance in the final quarter will determine whether the Maldives surpasses the 2 million visitor mark in 2025—a new record for the destination. While strong growth is evident, the sector will need to maintain service standards and capacity to handle the surge sustainably.
