In a significant
move to facilitate religious travel for Maldivians, the national airline
Maldivian has launched direct Umrah flights to Jeddah, easing access for
hundreds of local pilgrims embarking on the sacred journey. A total of three
non-stop flights will operate this July, transporting over 750 passengers
directly from Malé to the holy city in Saudi Arabia.
The first
flight, scheduled for July 22, 2025, marks a historic milestone for Maldivian
as it operates its first-ever Umrah service in collaboration with Al Musafir
Hajj & Umrah (The Traveller). This partnership highlights the airline's
commitment to working with a broader network of travel organizers to deliver
seamless and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage experiences.
The remaining
two flights will be operated in collaboration with Maldives Hajj Corporation, a
trusted national institution that has long facilitated Hajj and Umrah travel
for the Maldivian community. This includes the successful coordination of Hajj
charter flights earlier this year.
“As the national
airline, we are honoured to support Maldivian pilgrims in performing Umrah with
ease and comfort,” said Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Maldivian. “We are
proud to launch our first Umrah flights in partnership with Hajj Corporation and
Al Musafir, marking a significant step in expanding our services to support
Umrah travel.”
The airline
emphasized that special care is being taken to ensure a smooth, comfortable,
and spiritually supportive experience for all passengers. These chartered Umrah
flights will be operated primarily by Maldivian crew, providing an added layer
of familiarity and comfort for local travelers.
With this
initiative, Maldivian reaffirms its dedication to making essential journeys
more accessible and stress-free for the community. The launch of Umrah charter
services also signals the airline’s broader strategy to support religious and
cultural connectivity while enhancing its role as a key player in the Maldives'
aviation sector.
