First Batch of Ambulances Distributed to 28 Locations

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has completed the distribution of ambulances to 28 locations across the Maldives as part of an initiative with the Ministry of Health to ensure ambulance services are available on all islands.

The Ministry of Health awarded the procurement of 56 ambulances on a contract finance basis in 2025. The ambulances were imported to the Maldives in three batches, with the process completed on 19 January 2026.

According to MPL, a total of 29 ambulances has so far been dispatched to various regions. One ambulance was handed over to the Maldives Correctional Service, while the remaining 28 were delivered to islands in both the northern and southern regions of the country.

MPL stated that preparations are currently underway to deliver the remaining ambulances to designated islands in Raa, Baa, Lhaviyani, Kaafu, and Alif Alif Atolls ahead of the start of Ramadan.

In addition to the delivery process, MPL’s mechanical team provided operational and maintenance guidance to healthcare staff at the time of handover. The team also assisted in identifying technical issues in ambulances currently in operation.

MPL further noted that discussions are ongoing to formalize long-term support through a service contract with the Ministry of Health.

MPL emphasized that the project is being implemented in line with the government’s initiative to provide reliable ambulance services across all islands.
