Ashan Becomes First Woman Appointed as FSM Managing Director

Fatimath Ashan has been appointed as the Managing Director of Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM), making her the first woman to lead the government-owned oil company under the State Trading Organization (STO).

Ashan previously served as a board member of STO and as a Senior General Manager within the organization. She also worked as the Deputy CEO at the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).

An accomplished professional, Ashan holds a Diploma in Business (Information Technology) from the Hobart Institute of Technical and Further Education in Australia, completed in 1994, and a Master’s in Business Administration from KDU College in Malaysia, completed in 2003.

Ashan replaces Ismail Suhail, who resigned as FSM Managing Director on November 26, less than a year after taking the role on December 5, 2023. Suhail’s resignation followed a police investigation into allegations that FSM employees had stolen fuel and laundered money from its sale.
