Airports Company Limited (MACL) hosted an Aviation and Travel Industry
Stakeholder Event on December 19, 2024, at Velana International Airport,
gathering key representatives from the aviation and tourism sectors. The event
emphasized collaborative efforts in driving the Maldives' success as a premier
travel destination.
Attendees
included senior representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives
Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Maldives Association of
Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), Maldives Association of Travel
Industry (MATI), National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM), and Maldives
Yacht Association (MAYA). Senior airline executives operating in the Maldives
and MACL management were also present.
During the
event, MACL’s CEO and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, highlighted
the milestone of welcoming the Maldives’ 2 millionth tourist by the end of
December. He credited industry stakeholders for their role in achieving this
feat and outlined MACL's ongoing efforts to expand connectivity with new
airlines, routes, and increased cargo services. These developments, he said,
underscore the Maldives’ position as a global travel hub.
CEO Shareef
expressed gratitude for the dedication and contributions of all stakeholders,
emphasizing that the country’s tourism and aviation growth is a shared success.
He called for continued collaboration across aviation, tourism, and maritime
sectors to sustain this momentum.
He also
announced upcoming initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and
customer experience. These include infrastructure upgrades and the integration
of new technological solutions to streamline operations and enhance service
delivery at Velana International Airport.
The event
provided a vital platform for networking among key stakeholders and underscored
the importance of partnerships in the continued development of air services and
tourism in the Maldives.
