Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) hosted an Aviation and Travel Industry Stakeholder Event on December 19, 2024, at Velana International Airport, gathering key representatives from the aviation and tourism sectors. The event emphasized collaborative efforts in driving the Maldives' success as a premier travel destination.

Attendees included senior representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), Maldives Association of Travel Industry (MATI), National Boating Association of Maldives (NBAM), and Maldives Yacht Association (MAYA). Senior airline executives operating in the Maldives and MACL management were also present.

During the event, MACL’s CEO and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, highlighted the milestone of welcoming the Maldives’ 2 millionth tourist by the end of December. He credited industry stakeholders for their role in achieving this feat and outlined MACL's ongoing efforts to expand connectivity with new airlines, routes, and increased cargo services. These developments, he said, underscore the Maldives’ position as a global travel hub.

CEO Shareef expressed gratitude for the dedication and contributions of all stakeholders, emphasizing that the country’s tourism and aviation growth is a shared success. He called for continued collaboration across aviation, tourism, and maritime sectors to sustain this momentum.

He also announced upcoming initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and customer experience. These include infrastructure upgrades and the integration of new technological solutions to streamline operations and enhance service delivery at Velana International Airport.

The event provided a vital platform for networking among key stakeholders and underscored the importance of partnerships in the continued development of air services and tourism in the Maldives.
