Maldives, OPEC Fund Sign New Partnership Framework to Boost Climate Resilience and Sustainable Development

The Maldives and the OPEC Fund for International Development has signed a new Country Partnership Framework aimed at strengthening cooperation on climate resilience and sustainable development.

The framework was signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer and OPEC Fund President Dr Abdulhamid Alkhalifa. It will guide collaboration in priority areas including sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy, climate resilience and fiscal stability.

Minister Zameer said the agreement builds on the long-standing partnership between the Maldives and the OPEC Fund, further aligning joint efforts with the country’s long-term development goals.

“Today, I signed a new Country Partnership Framework with the OPEC Fund alongside President Dr Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, strengthening our long-standing partnership,” Minister Zameer said.

“The framework sharpens our joint focus on climate resilience, sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy and fiscal stability, and deepens cooperation to support the Maldives’ long-term development priorities.”

He also expressed appreciation for the OPEC Fund’s continued support to the Maldives since 1977, noting its contributions across key sectors including water and sanitation, transport, fisheries, health and education.

The new framework reaffirms both parties’ commitment to supporting sustainable and inclusive development in the Maldives amid growing climate and economic challenges.
