Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has strengthened its India growth strategy with the appointment of AVIAREPS India as its General Sales Agent (GSA) for South India. The announcement was made at a trade and media event in the region, which gathered leading travel trade partners, tour operators, and prominent media representatives.
The event
highlighted the rising demand for travel to the Maldives and Maldivian’s
commitment to expanding its role in facilitating connectivity between South
India and the island nation. Discussions also focused on closer collaboration
with travel trade partners to further boost visitor numbers from one of the
Maldives’ most important outbound markets.
India remains a
vital source market for Maldivian, with 85,306 Indian visitors recorded up to
August 2025—a 4.7% increase compared to the same period last year. India now
ranks as the sixth largest contributor to Maldives tourism, accounting for 5.7%
of total arrivals.
To cater to this
demand, Maldivian’s Summer 2025 schedule continues to operate four weekly
flights each from Cochin (COK) and Trivandrum (TRV) to Malé. These services
provide strong regional connectivity, complemented by the airline’s extensive
domestic network—the largest in the Maldives—linking travellers to luxury
resorts, cultural experiences, adventure activities, and wellness retreats
across the archipelago.
“We are greatly
encouraged by the growing interest from the Indian market, and today’s event in
South India further reaffirmed the importance of this region for us,” said
Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Maldivian. “With the support of AVIAREPS, we
look forward to building stronger trade partnerships and welcoming even more
Indian travellers to discover the unique experiences of the Maldives.”
Through its new
GSA partnership and regional engagement, Maldivian aims to expand visibility
across South India, deepen trade relationships, and strengthen its position as
the preferred carrier between India and the Maldives.
