The Ministry of Sports and Fitness has signed an agreement with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) to develop a Multi-Sports Complex in HDh. Nolhivaranfaru, further advancing the government’s pledge to expand sports and recreation facilities nationwide.
The agreement
was signed yesterday during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s tour of the
inhabited islands of Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Minister of Sports and Fitness Abdullah
Rafiu signed on behalf of the Ministry, while MACL’s CEO and Managing Director
Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed represented the company.
The project is
part of a broader initiative stemming from an agreement signed on 18 August
2025 between the Ministry and MACL to establish Fitness and Recreation Centers
on 63 islands across the Maldives. The Nolhivaranfaru complex will be among the
first such projects to commence under this collaboration.
President Dr.
Muizzu has pledged to ensure that Fitness and Recreation Centers are
established on all inhabited islands of the Maldives by the end of 2026,
highlighting the government’s commitment to promoting sports and healthy
lifestyles.
MACL, which has
already partnered with the government on several community development
initiatives, stated that the project reflects the company’s dedication to
supporting youth engagement and wellbeing across the country.
