A new premium passenger lounge, “Koveli”, has officially opened at Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport (VIA), enhancing the travel experience for departing passengers. The lounge was inaugurated on Thursday by Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, together with Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, at a ceremony held in the new terminal’s departure area.
The event was
attended by MACL Deputy Managing Directors Mujtaba Lateef and Mohamed Lamran,
members of the company’s Executive Committee, officials from the Ministry of
Economic Development, as well as representatives from various airlines
operating in the Maldives.
Speaking at the
ceremony, Minister Saeed underscored the vital role of VIA in sustaining the
Maldivian economy, noting that while tourism remains the backbone of the
nation’s prosperity, the airport stands as the foundation supporting all
related industries. He commended MACL staff for their service, describing their
contributions as “a great national duty” that helps uplift the country’s image
and economic strength.
Located on the
second floor of VIA’s Terminal 1, the Koveli lounge spans an area of 1,230
square meters and has the capacity to accommodate up to 270 guests
simultaneously. Designed to provide a modern and comfortable experience, the
lounge includes a children’s play area, dedicated buffet section, shower
facilities, baby care amenities, and rooms equipped for passengers with special
needs.
MACL stated that
the opening of Koveli lounge reflects its commitment to offering world-class
facilities at the Maldives’ main international gateway, aligning with the
government’s vision of elevating passenger services and supporting the growth
of tourism.
