Starting from 12:00 midnight tonight, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) will introduce major changes to the traffic flow at Velana International Airport (VIA), marking a significant shift in how vehicles enter and exit the airport.
According to
details released by MACL today, the key adjustment will be the rerouting of
vehicle entry. Instead of using a single road for both entry and exit, all
incoming vehicles will now be required to access the airport via the outermost
road near the seawall. The move, MACL said, is aimed at easing congestion and
streamlining passenger drop-offs.
Vehicles
dropping off passengers will be directed to the left side of the area currently
occupied by taxis. For passengers traveling through Terminal 1 and Terminal 2,
vehicles will exit using the road directly in front of the terminals.
Meanwhile, vehicles entering from the outer road and heading out of the airport
will use the right side of the road in front of the parking area.
MACL noted that
these changes are part of wider adjustments linked to the opening of VIA’s new
passenger terminal. Officials emphasized that the new traffic arrangement is
designed to improve efficiency and passenger experience at the country’s
busiest gateway.
The company
advised travelers and motorists to familiarize themselves with the new traffic
chart ahead of time to avoid confusion and delays when the system comes into
effect at midnight.
