The Certificate III in Airport Security & Management
offered by Aviation Institute Maldives was officially inaugurated by Ibrahim
Shareef Mohamed, CEO and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited
(MACL), in a ceremony held for estate security officers. The event also marked
the launch of the Estate Security Services (ESS) Annual Calendar.
The initiative is part of MACL’s ongoing efforts to
strengthen security operations at Velana International Airport (VIA) by
equipping frontline staff with internationally recognized skills and
certifications. The course aims to enhance the professional capabilities of
estate security officers who play a critical role in ensuring safety and
operational efficiency across the airport estate.
With a workforce exceeding 3,500 employees—97 percent of
whom are Maldivians—MACL is the largest employer in the country. The company
fosters an inclusive work environment and actively promotes professional
development for staff across all departments, including individuals with
special needs.
“Developing our people is at the core of building an airport
that reflects the excellence associated with the Maldives brand,” said Ibrahim
Shareef Mohamed during the inauguration. “Security personnel are an essential
part of that experience, and this program ensures they receive the knowledge
and training required to perform their duties to the highest standard.”
MACL recently concluded a three-day First Aid and Basic Life
Support Training program conducted by the International Organization for
Migration (IOM) under the Border Health Project. The sessions included 90
participants from MACL, Maldives Immigration, and HPA Border Health, fostering
stronger inter-agency collaboration in emergency response and public safety.
As the primary operator of Velana International Airport and
with over 56 years of experience in the aviation industry, MACL remains
committed to delivering integrated solutions that elevate VIA into a
world-class international hub. The company’s long-term vision continues to
focus on service excellence, safety, and innovation.
