A Tesla Model 3 has begun operating as a taxi in Malé, the capital of the Maldives—making it the first Tesla vehicle to be used as a taxi in the country.
Tesla, Inc. is an American electric vehicle (EV) and clean
energy company, founded in 2003 by a group of engineers including Elon Musk,
who now serves as CEO. The company is globally recognized for its innovations
in electric mobility, battery technology, and solar energy solutions.
While Tesla taxis are increasingly common in parts of Europe,
North America, and the Middle East, they remain extremely rare in South Asia.
Speaking to Sun Online, Ali Zameer, the owner of the
Tesla Model 3 taxi, said he will be available through the Avas Ride app and
will charge the standard local fare. He also noted that he is open to advance
bookings.
Malé, known for adopting modern and fuel-efficient vehicles
more readily than many other cities in the region, continues to set itself
apart. The introduction of a Tesla taxi represents a notable step forward in
sustainable urban transportation for the Maldives.
