STELCO to Hold Scholarship Information Session This Thursday for UK Engineering Degrees

The State Electric Company (STELCO) will conduct an information session this Thursday to provide details on a new round of scholarships offered under its ‘Merit-Based Engineering Scholarship Scheme’ for students aiming to pursue Bachelor's degree programs in the United Kingdom.

The session, scheduled to take place at STELCO’s Training Room on the fifth floor of its headquarters, will run from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. An additional online session will be held the same day from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., providing flexibility for interested applicants. Prospective participants in the virtual session are encouraged to register in advance by emailing [email protected].

This year’s scheme includes three scholarship opportunities: one for a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and two for Mechanical Engineering. The initiative is part of STELCO’s broader commitment to developing local talent in key technical fields.

Eligibility criteria for applicants include being under the age of 24 and holding exceptional academic qualifications—specifically, a minimum of two A* grades and one A at A-Level, including subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Computer Science. Alternatively, students with equivalent credentials from the International Baccalaureate (IB) program may also apply.

For those selected, the comprehensive scholarship package covers all major expenses including course fees, living costs, establishment and book allowances, visa fees, and round-trip airfare.

As part of the scholarship agreement, recipients will be required to complete an internship at STELCO prior to commencing their studies and will be obligated to serve the company upon completing their degree program.

Applications for the scheme will remain open until the end of April, and STELCO encourages eligible students with a passion for engineering to seize this opportunity to gain a world-class education while contributing to the development of the Maldivian energy sector.
