President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the newly revised Masterplan for Hulhumalé is set to ensure long-term sustainable development, with the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for up to 300,000 residents.
The President made this statement while inaugurating the updated Hulhumalé Masterplan and the newly enhanced official website of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Speaking at the ceremony, President Muizzu emphasized that the revised plan is a key part of the Government’s broader urban development strategy, particularly in addressing the persistent congestion issues in Malé City. He noted that Hulhumalé’s transformation is critical to establishing the island as a financial and economic hub within the Greater Malé Region.
“The new Masterplan reflects our vision for a livable, economically resilient Hulhumalé. It is not just a plan on paper — it’s a commitment to the people. With the cooperation of all stakeholders, we can bring this vision to life,” said the President.
He also stressed the importance of transparency and accountability across government agencies and state-owned enterprises. Highlighting the ongoing reforms at HDC, President Muizzu said that governance improvements, leadership restructuring, and anti-corruption measures are already yielding results.
Alongside the Masterplan, the revamped HDC website was launched by Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar. The upgraded platform is aimed at improving public access to services such as building and bid approvals, and includes a whistleblower portal to strengthen internal oversight and public accountability.
In his concluding remarks, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accelerating the implementation of all promised projects in Hulhumalé, backed by HDC’s continued leadership and reform initiatives.
The revised Hulhumalé Masterplan is envisioned as a cornerstone for enhancing urban living, driving economic growth, and supporting sustainable development well into the future.
