Direct air travel between Malé and Dhaka is set to resume from March following strong demand from travellers, restoring a key regional air link between the Maldives and Bangladesh. Maldivian announced that it will restart the nonstop service from 12 March 2026, responding to sustained interest from local passengers and the expatriate community.
The twice-weekly
flights will operate on Thursdays and Sundays, with early morning arrivals into
Dhaka designed to allow seamless onward connections for passengers. The timing
also coincides with the end of Ramadan, supporting travel plans around Eid for
Maldivians heading to Bangladesh and expatriates returning home, while
facilitating inbound travel by Bangladeshi tourists to the Maldives.
According to the
airline, the relaunch is not limited to seasonal demand. The Malé–Dhaka route
is intended to serve year-round travel needs, providing reliable connectivity
for business travellers, short visits and regional connections. Dhaka remains a
vital destination for residents of Maldives, while also catering to the
sizeable Bangladeshi workforce living and working in the country.
Return fares on
the route will start from USD 399 and include a 30-kilogram checked baggage
allowance along with meal service. Ticket sales opened today.
As part of the
route’s return, Maldivian will also host the “Dhaka, We Heard You” Music
Festival on 9 January 2026. The community-focused event is aimed at celebrating
the expatriate community and highlighting the close cultural ties shared
between the Maldives and Bangladesh.
The resumption
of direct flights is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and offer a
convenient, nonstop travel option between the two capitals, reaffirming Dhaka’s
role as an important gateway for travellers moving between the Maldives and
South Asia.
