BML Community Fund Supports Special Education Needs Project in Veymandoo

A new Special Education Needs (SEN) classroom has been established at Th. Veymandoo School with funding from the Bank of Maldives (BML) Community Fund, aimed at enhancing inclusive education and supporting the development of students requiring specialized learning assistance.

The initiative was undertaken by the Veymandoo Zuvaanunge Gulhun project, which received funding last year. The classroom has been designed to support students’ fine and gross motor skills, improve their ability to engage with others, and encourage active participation in the community.

Veymandoo School has set its sights on expanding the classroom further to provide life-skills training such as cooking, sewing, and other daily activities that will help students become more independent.

President of Veymandoo Zuvaanunge Gulhun, Ahmed Shaugath, said the aim of the project is to provide a learning environment tailored to the needs of students who require additional support. He also expressed gratitude to the school for its cooperation during the construction phase, noting that the facility will open new opportunities for students with special needs.

This year alone, BML has supported the development of two other SEN classrooms—at Salahuddin School in Hulhumalé and Hiriya School in Malé—benefiting more than 200 students. The initiative reflects the Bank’s continued commitment to strengthening education and community development across the Maldives.
