Bank of Maldives (BML) has partnered with the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) to offer the Sports Scholarship 2025, marking the third consecutive year of collaboration since the programme was first introduced in 2023.
The Sports Scholarship is designed to help Maldivian athletes achieve their full potential through targeted, high-impact development programmes. Under the partnership, the MOC will oversee the athlete selection process, with nominations open to its member associations.
The fully funded scholarship provides selected athletes with the opportunity to train at internationally renowned high-performance training centres, supporting their professional growth and exposure to elite sporting environments.
BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef said the scholarship reflects the bank’s continued commitment to the development of sports in the Maldives.
“BML Sports Scholarship is a testament to our commitment to supporting the development of athletes in the Maldives. By partnering with the Maldives Olympic Committee, we are ensuring that the selection process identifies the most dedicated and promising talent in the country. Investing in our athletes today will strengthen the future of Maldivian sports and open new pathways for international success,” he said.
President of the Maldives Olympic Committee Mohamed Abdul Sattar welcomed the continued partnership, noting its impact on athlete development.
“We are proud to partner with BML on the Sports Scholarship for a third year. Together, the Maldives Olympic Committee and Bank of Maldives are investing in talent, unlocking opportunity, and shaping the future of Maldivian sport,” he said.
Since its inception, the Sports Scholarship has supported eight athletes in advancing their professional sporting careers.
Bank of Maldives has also been a long-standing supporter of national sports, backing disciplines such as swimming, tennis, basketball and surfing through strategic partnerships, underscoring its long-term dedication to sports development across the country.
