STO Sets to Ease Ramadan Shopping with Discounted Essentials

The State Trading Organisation (STO) has revealed plans to stock 24 key products at discounted prices for Ramadan, ensuring that essential items are readily available during the festive season. Starting next week, the company will import a variety of basic food items, vegetables, fruits, processed foods, and cooking utensils to meet public demand.

The special Ramadan stock includes staples such as onions, eggs, potatoes, coconuts, and dates. In addition, the company will import a wide selection of vegetables and fruits, including garlic, ginger, lime, carrots, oranges, cabbage, chili, guava, watermelon, mangoes, passionfruit, and cucumber. Processed food items like Nestlé cream, cocoa powder, baked beans, and condensed milk will also be stocked, alongside essential cooking ingredients such as sunflower oil, vegetable oil, and Basmati rice.

STO emphasized its commitment to maintaining affordable prices for basic commodities. To ensure this, the company will monitor market prices daily and take action if any product’s price becomes unreasonable, in consultation with the Ministry of Economic Development. The aim is to prevent a supply gap, allowing the public to access goods without price inflation impacting their daily lives.

In line with previous years, STO is prioritizing products likely to experience price increases during Ramadan, with the goal of meeting demand without straining the market. The state-owned enterprise also plans to adjust imports to ensure a sufficient supply of goods to all areas in the Maldives.
