BML Islamic has been appointed as the Platinum Partner for the International Zakat Conference 2025, scheduled to be held on the 23rd of this month under the theme “Zakat for Social Justice and Digital Inclusion: Advancing Social Welfare through Innovation.”
The annual
conference will serve as a platform to promote a sustainable zakat system in
the Maldives, bringing together local and international scholars, zakat
practitioners, policymakers, and community leaders. The aim is to identify
strategies to strengthen zakat administration and enhance its role as a key
driver of social wellbeing, economic stability, and poverty alleviation in the
country.
As the largest
Islamic bank in the Maldives, BML Islamic offers a full range of
Shariah-compliant banking services, including accounts, cards, and financing
products. Over the years, the bank has introduced innovative financial
solutions such as Islamic overdraft financing, cash financing, hybrid home
financing, Islamic debit cards, and remains the only bank in the country to
issue Islamic credit cards.
This year’s
conference coincides with the 10th anniversary of BML Islamic, marking a decade
of its contribution to Islamic banking and financial inclusion. In celebration,
the bank has launched a special promotion offering 10 customers the opportunity
to perform Hajj. The promotion is open to both existing and new customers,
including those who hold financing facilities, receive salary deposits through
the bank, maintain a general investment account, or use an Islamic credit card.
Organisers of
the International Zakat Conference said the event will focus on the role of
digital innovation in zakat collection, management, and distribution, exploring
ways to ensure transparency, accessibility, and efficiency in reaching those
most in need.
The conference
is expected to set the stage for policy discussions and practical measures that
could modernise zakat administration in the Maldives, reinforcing its role as a
tool for social justice and economic empowerment.
