Hulhumalé Phase 3 Reclamation Reaches 63%

Land reclamation works for Hulhumalé Phase 3 have reached a significant stage, with 40 hectares of the planned 63 hectares now reclaimed, bringing overall progress to 63 percent. The development marks steady advancement in one of the country’s key urban expansion projects aimed at supporting future housing and infrastructure needs.

The reclamation is currently being carried out using two large-capacity dredgers, Prins der Nederlanden and Oranje, each with a capacity of 22,000 cubic metres. Both vessels remain actively deployed on site, contributing to the consistent pace of work observed in recent weeks.

The Phase 3 reclamation works are being implemented by Maldives Airports Company Limited, which officially commenced the project on 10 November 2025. Since then, operations have progressed as planned, with no major disruptions reported.

Hulhumalé Phase 3 forms part of the government’s broader urban development strategy, designed to ease congestion in the Greater Malé region and provide space for long-term residential and commercial growth. Once completed, the reclaimed land is expected to play a critical role in addressing housing demand while supporting future infrastructure development in the area.
