Fenaka, in
partnership with the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, has
officially launched the Magey Solar program, an ambitious initiative aimed at
harnessing solar energy by installing photovoltaic (PV) systems on the rooftops
of private homes across the Maldives. This program is part of the government's
broader strategy to achieve 33% renewable energy consumption by 2028,
significantly reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels.
The Magey Solar program
aims to streamline access to solar energy for residents while also reducing
public expenditure on electricity. Eligible participants must be customers of
Fenaka with an active electricity subscription. Interested individuals can
apply through the dedicated Magey Solar website or by scanning a QR code
provided in various promotional materials.
Upon submitting
their application, participants will receive a unique order ID, which they can
use to track their request status. Fenaka's team will then schedule a site
visit to assess the feasibility of installing solar panels. Following this
assessment, applicants will receive an SMS notification detailing whether their
order has been accepted or rejected.
The program
offers two system sizes: 3 kW and 5 kW, available in both single-phase and
three-phase configurations. Notably, no advance payment is required for the
solar PV systems. However, there is an installation fee of 10% of the total
system price, payable at the time of signing the contract. The cost for a 3 kW
system is MVR 45,000, while a 5 kW system is priced at MVR 75,000. The Ministry
plans to distribute a total of 748 solar PV systems across various provinces,
with Addu City receiving a significant share of the initial rollout, which
includes 88 systems.
As part of the
application process, households will undergo a survey to determine suitable
locations for solar installations and the appropriate system size based on
their energy consumption. The allocation of solar PV systems will be handled on
a first-come, first-served basis, emphasizing the need for timely applications.
The Magey Solar program
also provides flexible payment options. Once an order is accepted, participants
can choose from various payment plans spanning one, three, or five years. If
opting for installments, the monthly electricity bill will incorporate the
amount due for the solar system, making it more manageable for households to
finance their energy transition.
Environment
Minister Thorig Ibrahim highlighted that the initiative is poised to generate a
total of four megawatts of electricity, further strengthening the Maldives'
renewable energy infrastructure. The ministry emphasizes that solar systems
installed under the program will be the responsibility of the homeowners for
maintenance and repairs, ensuring sustainability and efficiency.
This project
aligns with the Maldivian government's commitment to mitigating climate change
and promoting energy independence. By increasing the utilization of available
renewable resources, the Magey Solar Program not only aims to reduce
electricity costs for consumers but also contributes to the nation’s long-term
environmental goals.
As the Maldives
navigates the challenges of energy consumption in a rapidly changing climate,
the Magey Solar Program marks a significant step toward a sustainable and
economically viable future for all residents. Interested individuals are
encouraged to apply now by visiting mageysolar.fenaka.mv to seize this opportunity to participate
in the nation’s renewable energy revolution.
