Island Aviation,
the operator of the national airline Maldivian, has appointed Ahmed Shafiu as
the Chairman of its Board of Directors. The announcement was made yesterday via
a social media post by the company.
This marks
Shafiu’s second tenure as Chairman of Island Aviation. He first held the
position during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.
Shafiu currently
serves as a state minister at the Ministry of Higher Education, a role he
assumed approximately a month after the current government took office. In
addition to his ongoing responsibilities, Shafiu is also a former cabinet
minister, having served as the Minister of Fisheries during the administration
of former President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.
Island
Aviation’s decision to bring back Shafiu as Chairman reflects his extensive
experience in governance and leadership. His reappointment underscores
continuity and familiarity with the operations of the national airline.
Maldivian,
operated by Island Aviation, plays a vital role in connecting the islands of
the Maldives and ensuring seamless travel within the country and beyond.
