This marks Shafiu’s second tenure as Chairman of Island Aviation. He first held the position during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.

Shafiu currently serves as a state minister at the Ministry of Higher Education, a role he assumed approximately a month after the current government took office. In addition to his ongoing responsibilities, Shafiu is also a former cabinet minister, having served as the Minister of Fisheries during the administration of former President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.
