In preparation
for the highly anticipated opening of the New Passenger Terminal, Maldives
Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced revised traffic arrangements
affecting access to the airport’s car park and Domestic Terminal, set to take
effect on July 20, 2025.
Under the
updated plan, passenger drop-off for the Domestic Terminal will be redirected
to the designated drop-off zone currently used by international passengers.
This means all private vehicles transporting passengers regardless of
destination will now utilize a single, unified drop-off area near the
International Terminal. The move is intended to streamline operations and
improve traffic flow during the terminal transition phase.
Significant
changes are also being made to parking infrastructure. The existing car park on
the southern side of Hulhule Island will be relocated to the front of the
former Cargo Terminal, in close proximity to the Domestic Terminal. Estate
Security Services (ESS) will oversee operations at the new facility, where
enhanced security and management protocols will be implemented to ensure a
safer and more organized environment for airport users.
In addition,
MACL confirmed that public transportation routes to the airport will also be
affected. MTCC bus services will now operate exclusively from the bus stop
located behind the MACL Corporate Office, with the goal of reducing congestion
in the main passenger movement areas.
These revised
arrangements are being introduced in the lead-up to the July 26 opening of the
New Passenger Terminal, which marks a major milestone in the airport’s ongoing
expansion. MACL urges all travelers, transport providers, and airport visitors
to familiarize themselves with the new access routes and procedures to ensure
smooth transitions and avoid delays during the busy implementation period.
The airport
operator emphasized that these changes are necessary to accommodate the
upgraded infrastructure and enhance the overall passenger experience,
reinforcing its commitment to safe, efficient, and modern airport operations.
