Bank of Maldives Expands ATM Network to All Inhabited Islands in Laamu Atoll

Bank of Maldives (BML) has inaugurated a new ATM service in Laamu Hithadhoo as part of its nationwide initiative, the “Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM” program. The launch marks another major step in the Bank’s efforts to enhance financial accessibility across the Maldives. Alongside the inauguration, a groundbreaking ceremony was also held for the construction of a new BML branch on the island.

The event was attended by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, government ministers, BML Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb, CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef, and senior bank officials. Their presence underscored the importance of expanding essential financial infrastructure to support local communities and economic growth.

Throughout this week, BML will complete the rollout of ATM services in Kunahandhoo, Dhanbidhoo, Maabaidhoo, Mundoo, Isdhoo, and Kalaidhoo, achieving a significant milestone — bringing ATM coverage to all inhabited islands in Laamu Atoll.

Commenting on the development, BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef said:

“The launch of ATM services in these seven islands in Laamu Atoll will bring the total number of islands in which new ATMs have been introduced under the ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ program this year to 103. This is undoubtedly one of the biggest projects we have undertaken and reflects our commitment to financial inclusion and supporting local growth.”

The Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM program, which aims to establish ATM services across all inhabited islands in the Maldives, is a cornerstone of BML’s financial inclusion strategy. By ensuring convenient access to basic banking services, the Bank continues to empower local communities, reduce travel barriers, and strengthen regional economic participation.

Today, Bank of Maldives stands as the country’s leading financial institution, operating an extensive network of 42 branches across all 20 atolls, 194 Self-Service Banking Centres, 252 ATMs, and comprehensive Agent Banking and Digital Banking solutions that collectively support thousands of individuals and businesses nationwide.
