Maldivian citizens can now travel to Azerbaijan without a visa and stay for up to 90 days, following a new agreement signed between the two countries.
The Foreign
Ministry announced today that the agreement, covering ordinary passport
holders, aims to make travel easier and strengthen ties between the Maldives
and Azerbaijan. Under the arrangement, Maldivians will be able to enter,
transit through, and remain in Azerbaijan for 90 days without the need for a
visa.
The agreement
was signed in New York on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General
Assembly. Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel signed on behalf of
the Maldives, while Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov signed on
behalf of his government.
This new deal
builds on a previous agreement signed last year that allowed visa-free travel
for holders of diplomatic and official passports between the two countries.
Officials say
the exemption is expected to boost travel, cultural exchange, and cooperation
in various fields, while also complementing ongoing efforts to expand
connectivity and bilateral relations.
